Once again I’ve fallen behind in my posts!

On November 3rd I attended a Kierans List meeting,
The Late Show“. This networking group meets every 1st and 3rd Wednesdays from 6:00 – 8:00 PM at Stonegate Pizza in Tacoma.
Highly recommended!

On the 6th, I attended a wonderful Advanced Demystifying Illustrator class taught by Teresa Anderson. It covered compound paths, 3-D, warping, text, blending and a whole lot more including patterns and output. A one day class that met in a Forza coffee shop in Tacoma for only $35!! Be on the lookout for more of her classes.

The following week I finished up work on a 24-page print catalog for Ebbets Field Flannels and edited some miscellaneous images for Savory Moment.

I attended a Spotlight Night for A Christmas Story: The Musical! at the 5th Avenue theater in Seattle on the 9th. Spotlight Nights are entertaining, informative and free. Sponsored by US Bank, this incredibly popular series gives a behind-the- scenes look at upcoming shows.

The Christmas Story Spotlight Night of our 2010-11 season took us inside the creation of A Christmas Story: The Musical!, based on the popular film. The Spotlight included 3 acts:

A Christmas Story

A Christmas Story

Act 1
Meet The Songwriters
Benj Pasek and Justin Paul are the hot new songwriting team transforming everyone’s favorite holiday movie into a spectacular new musical. We looked at their creative process as they previewed songs from A Christmas Story and other new works including Edges, James and The Giant Peach and Dog Fight.

Act 2
Meet the Cast
This production featured a remarkable cast of performers drawn from Seattle and New York. Starring as “The Old Man” will be Broadway veteran John Bolton with “Mother” portrayed by 5th Avenue favorite Anne Allgood. We also met the extraordinary young man who, as the result of a coast-to-coast talent search, has landed the coveted role of “Ralphie Parker.”

Act 3
The World of Jean Shepherd
Both the original film and this new musical were inspired by the semi-autobiographical stories of popular humorist, raconteur, and radio personality Jean Shepherd. David Armstrong led us on a brief tour of Shepherd’s fascinating life and hilarious works.

The next evening I attended another networking event called Tacoma Talk Shop at the Harmon Tap Room. We got the inside scoop on an event that will be scheduled in the Tacoma Convention Center on January 31st gathering together local businesses in Tacoma!

On Saturday the 13th, a friend and I went to see Stomp at the Paramount in Seattle. Be sure and click on the Stomp link. It shows a Stomp flash mob at the Seattle Public Library!

Last night was an auction to raise money for the YWCA,
Jewelers for Joy, a silent jewelry auction and dinner benefiting the YWCA’s domestic violence programs. Handcrafted jewelry items by local artists were donated to the event. There were even a few pieces made on site and live auctioned off. The food was catered by the Pacific Grill. This sold-out event was held at the downtown Marriott in Tacoma.
